Wish List

There are many reasons why the items in this Wish List never became a reality.  Unavailability of the item in the area we're in, fancy to have but impractical...Whatever the reason is, it'd still be nice to own it in this virtual world.

Wish came true! (Apr 08)
Now in the new house, Jamie does have his free-to-express wall and a colorfully painted wall in his own bedroom!

This painting was inspired by the wall in the playground of the previous apartment (see photo in below July 07 entry).  But details were designed for specific reasons.

First of all, the theme was to feature animals in nature, not human in city etc to foster Jamie's interest in them, and for practical reason to make the room feel more spacious.

Next idea was to separate the walls into day and night zone so that Jamie can see the sunny side through out the day and calm himself down and say good night to his favorite object - moon when he goes to sleep facing the night zone.  Note that there is no cloud because we don't like cloudy days.  The rainbow is beautiful to look at with different colors and also serves as a teaching material to learn about the nature.  Speaking of nature, there's gotta be the ocean as daddy and mommy always long to live somewhere close to the ocean.  The coconut palm tree also adds tropical atmosphere to the room.  The stars are a must too because Jamie likes to look up to the sky for stars as well.

Then the individual animals were carefully picked.  Giraffe because Mommy Joey likes it, largely because she received a giraffe doll from her grandma when she was a kid and she still remembers this day.  Lion, whale and bird on top of giraffe's head because Jamie could pronounce the sound they make.  The flying birds is just a phenomeno that mommy often finds fascinating.  Elephants because we live in Thailand.  Monkey to fill in the space in the tree.  And the four dogs were/are all owned by mommy.  The little white dog with the red scarf is Yo.  The little white one next to Yo is Twin who was owned by mommy during her Hawaii stay but now taken care by Grandma Eva and Grandpa Ben in Hong Kong.  The grey one with the ball is Husky who was also from Hawaii but now taken care by mommy's aunt in Hong Kong.  Then the big white one is Haka who was owned by mommy's host family during her Tokyo stay but unfortunately passed away when he was only less than 2 year old.  But years later Haka is still remembered.  By the way, Grandma Tonna and Grandpa Herbie's beloved dog Kona just passed away a few days ago due to sickness.  Of course Kona will be remembered too.  We already miss her...

Next to this wall is a thinner wall made in white board (actually grey in color) for Jamie to express himself but now he's too young so daddy and mommy will probably use it for personal memo for now. :)  Too young means we're afraid he'll think he can write on any wall and soon he will turn this new house into graffiti museum.
A baby friendly dog (Jul 07)

With Yo's history of snapping at other people including Daddy Steve, we have tried to keep Jamie and Yo apart for most of the time.  So far, everything's been ok (touch wood).  But it'd be really nice if we didn't have to worry about this problem.  Nothing is cuter than seeing a baby and a dog playing together.

Actually, Yo acts differently when he's at home and when he's outside.  When he's outside he doesn't seem to mind when kids play rough with him.  When he's at home, even just passing nearby him may trigger him to give an aggressive stare.  Maybe his territorial instinct kicks in when he's at home.  If we can find the cause, we can find the cure.  But at the same time, it's always better to play safe than be sorry.

A free-to-express wall (Jul 07)
If we can afford it, we'll provide Jamie his own bedroom with walls where he can freely express himself with crayons, painting, or whatever he wants.  Or, something like this wall with colorful painting for kids is also nice.
Wave To Sleep Mobile With Remote Control
I used to doubt if babies will really pay attention to mobiles but now I know they do.  Jamie started paying attention to his when he was over a month old.  His face lights up every time we wind for the music.  I think he'll like this one too.  Plus, this one has a remote control which helps because his current one's music always finishes before I want it to and I'll have to go back to his crib to wind for more.

Having said this, this mobile is only for babies up to 5 months.  It won't be practical to get him a new one now that he's already 2 and a half months old.  But I seriously think mobiles make good decoration and have soothing effect for adults too.  Maybe I should start my own collection.

Joey
Doraemon film
We have the Instax Mini camera.  We bought it to take photos of Jamie.  It's like a Polariod, only smaller.  It uses a special type of film.  Would love to have this cute Dorameon type of film or other ones with prints such as Hello Kitty, Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse but here in Bangkok we can find plain ones only.

Oct 06: Mikiko, thank you for making our wish come true!  And thank you for getting Jamie the imitated version of the Hug & Learn Globe.  Nice try!  :)
Hug & Learn Globe
This toy is for 6 months & up.  It's the winner of the National Parenting Center Seal of Approval Award 2005.  It plays ten songs and teaches animal names and sounds, colors, vehicles, and continents.  It'd be a great toy for Jamie to see the world but unfortunately this toy was found on a website that sells to US residents only.
