Uncle Law passed away due to Throat Cancer last Saturday. He had been sick for a while. Jamie and I went to visit him during our last Oct trip to Hong Kong. That turned out to be the last time we met. I'm glad my 2 cousins live with my aunt so they could be there for her. Rest in peace.

Mommy lost Twin on June 4, 08 when he passed away due to sickness at age 10. I've been feeling very empty after hearing about the loss of Twin. From the time he got sick to his death, there were only 2-3 days. I was in Tokyo working during those days and was not able to receive phone call to be informed about Twin's situation. When I found out on the 8th, it was already too late.
Twin was my 2nd dog following Yo in Hawaii. He was also a Maltese and his birthday was same as mine so I called him Twin. I got him because I wanted a friend for Yo. Later on I also got Husky, a Silky Terrier but Husky and Yo fought all the time and whenever that happened, the usually submissive Twin would suddenly become a fighter and tried to drag Husky away from Yo. Twin became Yo’s protector.
After we moved out of Hawaii, Twin had been living with my aunt and later my parents for all these years. We hardly spent any time together anymore but I loved every moment I was with him. He had such a different character from Yo. Twin was calm, submissive and liked to be alone. It was funny that he liked to sunbath alone at the corner of the living room. Yet, he liked to follow Jamie around when we visited Hong Kong. Like in this photo back in December last year, he allowed Jamie to push him around and he would still be ok. This couldn’t happen with Yo.
I can’t help to think that if I was informed before he was put to sleep, maybe I could have stopped it. Who knows? Maybe he would recover and live much longer. I put this photo as the wallpaper of my personal laptop but I think I may have to remove it because every time I look at it now it breaks my heart.
|
Even though Twin was already 10, he still looked like a puppy. He always had no facial expression though, like in this photo. It’s hard to believe he’s not here anymore.
Now I just feel even stronger the need to spend more quality time with our loved ones. Especially with Yo’s age being a few months older than Twin, I can’t help to think if it’s going to happen to Yo soon. With dogs, this kinda thing could come very sudden. I want to take him out much more, doing what he likes. And I hope Husky, who is 3 days younger than Twin, stays healthy. I think he’s being a good supporter for my aunt who recently lost her husband.
Twin, thank you for all the good memory. I miss you terribly.

Our beloved Fat Ah Paul passed away at age 78 in April 07 due to sickness. She lived with mommy's family for almost 20 years. We shared lots of special moment together. She was a very charming old lady. Although she's physically gone now, she will always be in our hearts. I really mean it. Over the years our bond had gotten so strong that I feel her presence in everything we do. Even when she's not there to tell a joke, I know what she would say, and I still laugh at it every time she tells it, even though she's not physically there. I'm glad that Steve and Jamie had chance to meet Fat Ah Paul although it was short. Steve also felt her charm even with language barrier.
Fat Ah Paul, thank you for everything and we'll miss you forever.

Welcome the new cat to our family! American Curl. About 4-5 months old male. Much bigger than Oatmeal. Jamie first named him Obaachan which means "grandma" in Japanese. It would have been a really unique and funny name for a male cat but we'd have to explain the meaning to everyone. Asked Jamie for another name and he said Pizza. :)

Jamie playing mouse with Pizza. Pizza is very playful, making good use of the many many Jamie's toys that were just laying all over the house.

|
Pizza's been eating well. Interested in Jamie's bread too but we are determined not to give him any human food for the sake of his health. He sleeps well too. Here sleeping along Yo.

Oatmeal arrived in our home on May 31, Sunday. Mommy went out to look at puppies. No intention to get one but just to enjoy watching them. Ended up coming home with this adorable kitten. A good pet for Jamie. Had Jamie name him. The first thing he said was Oatmeal so it became her name. She was outgoing with everyone, from Jamie to Yo. She even opened up Daddy Steve's heart. But she broke our heart tonight on June 3, Wednesday.
She basically refused to eat the whole 3 days she had been here. But Mommy Joey hears so many times that cats eat whenever they want so if Oatmeal decided not to eat, it was probably not a big deal...until Nanny Pong had to rush Oatmeal to the vet because she wouldn't stop crying and she didn't have strength to move. She was rushed to the vet at 11 am, by 7 pm, she was gone. She passed away in our home. It was time to give her syrup for some energy but her body was already hardened up. Mommy shouted many times "it's time to eat" but Oatmeal didn't respond. After a short while, Jamie came back from his walk with Daddy. Daddy broke into tears. Jamie asked "what's Oatmeal doing?" We told Jamie Oatmeal went to sleep. Oatmeal was such a good girl. She was special. Mommy didn't even like cats but she just couldn't resist her. Didn't even know she was a Persian until the vet identified tonight. She was only 2 months old. Poor baby.

It's hard to believe that this photo was taken only a night ago when the still-seem-to-be-healthy Oatmeal used the sleeping-on-the-floor Jamie as a stepping stone onto the sofa. She deteriorated so quickly. Do not take healthy life for granted.
She brought so much joy to us despite of the very short time we had been together. She was like a magnet that pulled all of us together. She gave us something to look forward to, her development. Yes, it is a big heart break for us and Daddy even said "no more pets" but the time we spent with Oatmeal made it clear that this home has room for another pet. Yo was already an old guy when Jamie came into this world but imagine the special bond that Jamie could develop with a pet that grows up with him together. Oatmeal was supposed to be that special one. No one could replace Oatmeal in our heart but many others like Oatmeal deserve a loving family like ours.
