It's a Girl!
Katie's Grand Entrance
Little Katherine Anne took the Neufeldt family by storm on March 19, 2008. Not due for another 5 1/2 weeks, she came quite unexpectedly, and we did not even know Katie was on her way until Elizabeth went to a routine check-up with the doctor. About 5 hours later, tiny little Katie made her hasty entrance to the world with a head full of dark hair
Katie's Journey
Upon delivery, Katie was taken to the NICU to be evaluated due to her premature birth. At that time, it was discovered that Katie had a tracheoesaphageal fistula (TEF). This basically means that Katie's esaphagus was not connected to the stomach, but was separated by a pouch. However, her trachea was connected to her stomach. Katie went into surgery the morning after she was born to have this repaired. The surgery was a success, and Katie spent two weeks in the NICU recovering, being monitored, and learning to eat on her own. on April 3rd, Katie was finally welcomed home after her jaunt in the NICU. She has the sweetest disposition, but a fighting spirit as well. Katie has changed our lives, and we marvel every day at how perfect she is and how God has his hand on her little life.
