A Mommie!?!
Around 10:30 pm, the evening of July 23rd ( which just happens to be two years "TO THE DAY" of Kamau's proposal), God made a second proposal to me... Well, I guess it wasn't quite a proposal, but it made that day the second happiest of my life... ( not in order of preference mind you, but in that of time)
- The prompt. Kamau and I urged ourselves to get a pregnancy test after I kept feeling as if my cycle was going to come on, but alas...no dice.
- The test. Without hesitation, I whipped out the test and got an immediate response. My first thoughts... if this is a plus sign, then what sign means you're pregnant - an asterisk?!
- The question. I go up to the den and ask Kamau if he's ready. He says "Yes, let's go check it out!" I stop him, "no - are you ready to be a Daddy?" He looks at me beaming and asks, "are you forreal?" Now, we are known to play with each other, but I figured that I'd best keep a straight face on this one. I don't think I knew Mau had that many teeth! :)
- Confirmation. We are happy, nervous, excited, anxious. Simply thrilled. As are our parents & siblings. Next stop the ob/gyn on Monday, June 30th!

My prediction
Thursday, July 26th AM
I predict that our baby will come the last half of March '08, most probably between St. Patricks Day and Easter. If taking after the parents, our darling will be born on a Friday, between late afternoon and early evening...
This is all based on online pregancy calendars, and my receipt for the last time that I went down the women's health aisle @ Walgreens! :)
We'll see what the med pros say...

against the odds
Saturday, July 28th - PM
The fact that Kamau and I are pregnant right now is actually quite remarkable. In light of all that my OB/GYN and nurse practioners have warned me about involving pregnancy, this blessing has definitely come against the odds. It reminds me of what Pastor Brown said last Sunday, "What God chooses to bless, one cannot curse." We'll have to remember all of this when we start thinking about a name...

Visiting the OB...my GYN
Transition: the initial appointment M, 7/30/07
So today my Gynecologist became my Obstetrician. I initially selected Dr. Williams because she was close to my sister's house, where I was living when I moved to Atlanta and because she went to Morehouse Med. Then, of course, she was confirmed as a winner when I found out she was an Astro, like my husband! :) She has a great "bedside" manner, I highly recommend. The appointment went well. So far, so good. We had to delay the ultrasound until next week. The Nickersons have been enjoying some eventful Mondays of late...

Thumper!
Monday, August 6th
Our baby is really working hard. Seeing the heartbeat - truly amazing. There's a little one inside me!!! :) Finally have a due date based on something other than hunch & speculation. Per measurement and development - we're 6 weeks, due March 31st...

Kamau Nickerson, my husband...
Monday, August 22nd
... is truly a gem. I thank God for him. Making a baby is taking quite a bit (I'll just leave it at that)... and Mau is making pregnancy as smooth as possible. Yea honeybunny!! :)

breaking the news
Labor Day 2007
I appear to be showing just a bit these days, so through necessity, (perhaps that's not quite the correct word) we called our grandmothers this morning. They were both quite pleased to say the least. From there, we went to the aunts and uncles, and then our closest buds. Everyone was wonderfully excited and I think Kamau has fallen quite naturally into a proud pappa role. :)

Hey Pearl that tickles!!
Week 15/16 - the flutters begin...
The FreeFall Ride at Six Flags, that's the most common thing I can associate it with.... A feeling in your tummy that makes you clinch your stomach to regain stability, but at the same time it is lovingly ticklish! I think Pearl is already starting to bond :) I'm sure it helps that we're already reading to our bundle of joy. (Thanks for the perfect book Anna!)

My first maternal moment
@ the week 20 Ultrasound
Seeing our baby wiggle around inside me for the first time - it almost brought me to tears. How spectacular!
