A little nervous
Well I'm a bit nervous about starting a baby website since we just marked the start of the 9th week today.  But we need a way to journal and eventually we'll want a website so I figure it's okay to sign up for the 7-day trial version.  We'll see how the week goes and then make a final decision.

Feeling a bit nauseous today.  I find that if I just keep eating, I do okay.  But then there are moments where no amount of food can help.  And certain things just sound GROSS.  I'm convinced my new sense of smell makes me a superhero and I'm kind of impressed with my new super power to smell both nice and gross things miles away.  Billy is learning very quickly that he can't eat certain things while I'm in the room, house, or country.  We've started the VERY long list of things that make me gag just smelling them.  Turns out egg rolls are currently #1 on the list.

Worried that I'm feeling better
I am feeling so much better today and of course that has me worried.  Why am I suddenly feeling better?  Is something wrong?  I guess I just have to trust that everything is okay and we're fine.  Hopefully the doctor will agree to see us this week for another ultrasound.  That will make me feel much better before Billy leaves on his trip.

The food aversions continue.  Nothing sounds good.  Well almost nothing.  Usually when I need to eat, one thing sounds good.  And usually it's something I can't or don't want to eat.  The other day Billy's tuna fish sandwich sounded like the best thing on the earth.  I was determined not to eat real tuna, so I put it to the google test.  Sure enough, I found a mock tuna recipe that uses garbanzo beans, mayo, mustard and relish.  YUM!  It smells and tastes like tuna!  I was so happy after finishing my second sandwich that I signed up for the recipe website just so I could leave positive feedback for the chef who created such wonderfulness!

10 weeks tomorrow!

Well the food aversions have started getting better.  I still can't stand to eat/be anywhere near some foods, but at least I'm getting better variety now.  Today's lunch was sweet and sour tofu with vegetables and it was soooooo YUMMY!  Not as good as PF Changs, but it did the trick.  I realized today that we haven't been taking belly pictures yet and I've already pooched a bit.  Oh well.  We'll take one this weekend since I'm still fairly flat...ish.

I told my boss this week.  We had a foot of snow this past weekend and it took me an hour to clean off the car.  Needless to say, I wasn't on time to work.  I called him early to tell him I wouldn't be on time, but felt bad.  I decided to tell him when I got in and he's so happy for us.  He's also been incredibly nice and has really helped to make me feel better at work.  He's even helping rally for me to work from home a few days a week and then more often when the baby comes.  Cross your fingers!  Also, he's promised to keep the secret until we're ready for everyone else at work to know.  :)

The day little Bean wiggled
We saw little bean wiggle today!  We went in for our 10w5d scan and little bean was waving his/her arms and wiggling!  It was so cute!  It was still pretty early in the morning, so we didn't get any flips or anything, but the wiggle was just too adorable!  We can't wait to go back in 4 weeks!

The nightmares were REALLY bad last night.  Maybe it was because of Halloween...who knows.  I guess just another joy of pregnancy.  Needless to say, I only got about 2 hours of sleep and Billy probably got less from my tossing and turning and me waking him up freaking out every 30 minutes.  Poor guy.

Beating up Billy
It's not what you think.  Okay it is what you think.  I attacked my husband last night.  I was having a vivid pregnancy dream about this woman who was trying to take a piece of paper out of my hands.  It had something on it that I didn't want her to see.  We had just finished riding our bikes over the sand dunes and we were in our dorm room and she tried to steal the paper from me.  Yeah.  I know.  I've officially lost it.  Anyway, I apparently got so mad that I reached across the bed and scratched Billy's face.  I got him from his hair-line to his eyebrows.  I woke up to his terror and realized what I was doing.  I felt soooooo bad, but Billy felt bad that I was having a bad dream!  What a good hubby.  Needless to say, I was VERY thankful this morning that I didn't leave any marks on his face.  How would he have explained that at work!??!

199 days and more energy!
Today also marked the day we hit 199 days remaining!  We're no longer in the 200's!  It's so exciting to think about how soon we'll be in the double digits.  And I'm amazed because it's just like everyone said - I felt so much better Sunday night but thought it was due to our Sunday afternoon nap.  Monday morning I woke up and felt great!  I wasn't too tired and made it through the day without feeling like I needed to close my eyes for 15 minutes at lunch.  Last night, I didn't get much sleep (see above story) and still felt fine today!  It's 8:15 (way past my usual bedtime) and I feel fine.  I think I might even make it to 10:00!

Second Trimester!
I can't believe the second trimester is starting today!  It's very exciting.  I'm still anxious for the things to come, but it does make me feel a bit better to know that we've made it this far.  And we have so many things to look forward to now!  Soon we'll find out if the baby is a boy or girl, I'll feel the baby move, and hopefully start looking pregnant instead of pudgy. Hahaha.

The Announcement Cards
Well our cards are running a bit late.  I guess they had some shipping issues.  We had really wanted to mail them out today so all of our family and friends would know by Thanksgiving.  Oh well.  Hopefully they'll be here early next week and everyone will know before December 1.  I can't wait!

The day my nose became a faucet

I was picking my nose with a Kleenex at my desk when the Kleenex started turning red.  By the time I had hung up with my boss to ask for a first aid kit, my desk, face, hands and office rug were soaked in blood.  My boss walked into my office to see if he could help with my “little nose bleed” (how I had described it on the phone) to see me and the office covered in blood.  I went through at least a box of Kleenexes (all completely soaked through) while the emergency team (who just happens to share our floor in our office building) worked on me.  Finally, the head of the team decided to take me to the hospital.  The blood was just still coming out faucet-style.  My normal doctors at the hospital are always there since they are also hospital staff so we went in search of one.  Luckily, my favorite doctor was on staff today and she agreed to see me right away.  The bleeding had stopped for about 10 minutes by then and the nurse and receptionist walked me down to her office.  When I got there, a team of 6 doctors worked on taking my blood pressure, looking at my nose and going over my charts.  Finally, a nose doctor gave me some gel to put on my nose and said that they wouldn’t do anything since the bleeding had stopped and it looked okay.  They said my blood pressure reading had been incredibly high at my last visit and they had been trying to reach me via phone and mail to come in (but they had our old address for some reason).  Why they didn’t talk to me about it before I left the hospital last time, I have no idea.  Anyway, then we got our first external u/s!  The baby was flipping and moving a lot and the heartbeat was perfect.  The baby has grown and changed so much!  She checked for gender, but wouldn’t make a guess since it’s so early and the baby just wouldn’t hold still very long.  But when she zoomed in, I didn’t see anything so I’m wondering if my girl guess is right???  Anyway, I now have to buy a blood pressure monitor and check it 3 times daily, but at least everything is okay.  And everyone at the office knows now!  Hahaha

Everyone knows!
It's been so exciting to get so many emails from family and friends.  The cards were a total hit and we feel so blessed that almost everyone found out on the exact same day!  Way to go US Postal Service!  My mom said the phone has been ringing off the hook :)  She thought we would get all the congrats phone calls and emails, but I told her that her phone would ring, too!  I guess she believes me now!  :)  It's very exciting to finally be able to share with everyone our fantastic news.  And it will be very exciting to see my mom's whole side of the family in December!  A wonderful surprise :)

Getting excited...
We have so many things to look forward to this week!  The big 2 are the doctor visit on Wednesday and going home on Friday.  :)  We are both very anxious to see if they'll tell us the gender on Wednesday.  I have a feeling we'll get a guess, but nothing certain.  We've booked an ultrasound in Michigan for the 24th and they said they'll tell us the gender for sure.  So at least we won't have to wait even a full week if we don't find out on Wednesday.

Chinese food and PJs!
Chinese food is still high on my "must eat now" list.  Some weeks I have it 3-5 times!  I always order sweet and sour tofu from China Garden.  They are located so close to the base and they get the food out so quickly that it's hard not to order from them every day.

About a week ago, I called (yes, they are on my speed dial) and ordered the usual.  She knows me so well now that I just say, "hi!  Can I do take-out today?" and she says, "Sweet and Sour Tofu in 10 minutes!"  Well, I showed up and the place was dark.  They had a sign on the door that said they are on vacation for a week.  As I turned to leave, totally puzzled, she opened the door - in her PJs!!!  She brought me into the dark restaurant and opened the kitchen door to yell at the cook and check on the progress of my lunch.  The cook, also in his PJs, waived to me, smiled and said "Sweet and Sour Tofu!  5 minutes!"

We tried to make small talk while he cooked, but she hardly speaks any English or German and I certainly don't speak Chinese.  It was incredibly awkward, but she made me feel welcome and even included an extra fortune cookie (which they really should call statement cookies because I have yet to get an actual fortune...).  I gave them a large tip and promised not to call again until they were open for business.

Egg rolls still make me green, but sweet and sour tofu sounds pretty good...maybe I'll give China Garden a call...

Sciatica Pain
I've started having severe pain in my back.  It's hard to drive because the pain shoots up and down when I switch from the gas to the break.  Mom said she had the same pain with me.  I've learned some stretches and those help, but don't fix it entirely.  I'm hoping the doctor can give me some advice on Wednesday.  Between the hip pain and the back pain, it's hard to sleep without having 1,200 pillows surrounding me.  But Billy is wonderful and plays with my hair (Laura, I know you're jealous LOL) just to help me fall asleep.  What a good guy!

Back to work
Sophia and I are back to work.  It's strange to be back to the old routine, but know so much more about her.  It's nice to be able to say "her" instead of "it"!  Returning with more maternity tops and TONS of stuff for Sophia, I feel like we're actually at the 1/2 way point.  I'm still worried that I'm not "feeling" her, but I certainly feel something going on and I'm constantly wondering if it's really her or if it's the elastic band on my pants.  Oh well.  Only time will tell!

FINALLY!
Well I am FINALLY feeling Sophie move and kick!  It's so nice to finally have the reassurance that she's okay.  One of the best movement moments so far was in a meeting this week.  I was starving and my tummy started to growl a lot.  Every time my tummy would growl, she'd move or kick me.  It was like she was saying, "eat something so I can get some peace and quiet!"  It still kind of feels like muscle spasms, but I hope it will get strong enough soon for Billy to feel it, too.

Of course the heartburn and back issues are still hanging around and making life difficult.  I can deal with both when they aren't too bad, but when they flare up...oy.

I have a container of Rolaids in every room and Maalox within reach.  I've also noticed that dairy products really help so I've been eating ice cream - I say that it's for the greater good to justify the calories.  :)  And I've noticed that hot tea and honey also help when I just can't or won't eat more ice cream.

Oh and I have finally gotten cankles!  My ankles have been puffing up at the end of each day.  I think it's fun to push my finger into them and watch the imprint slowly fade away.  I'll have to take some pictures because it's really the only funny thing about cankles.  I now keep a box under my desk to put my feet up during the day and I try my best to keep my feet up on the weekends and in the evening.  By morning, they are almost back to their normal size which is nice because it means I can still wear all of my cute shoes :)

Exhausted
Well I'm no where near as tired as I was in the first trimester, but I'm getting sleepy by the minute!  I feel like by the start of my third trimester, I'll be ready to head back into hibernation.  ;)  Mostly, I just can't sleep for longer than an hour or 2 at night.  When I roll over, I have to make sure to take the pillows with me and that always makes the covers shift too much.  It's like a battle every few hours to just roll over.  Thank goodness I'm still small enough to sleep on my tummy for short periods of time.  And forget the trips to the bathroom!  Oy!

In the meantime, we've been working on the nursery.  We've almost cleaned out all of the military stuff and sorted through the mountains of crap stored in that room.  We've been slowly building her book library at each book sale we find and have organized all of her clothes by size.  Hopefully the crib will come soon.  I need to finish her bedding and we still have to order the mattress and the glider this week.  I'm anxious to get it all organized, but I also know that the "nesting" feeling will hit me in a few weeks and I'll want something to do.  If it's all done, I'll drive Billy crazy!  So it's best we leave some things until the end.  :)

98 days to go!
I can't believe it's only 98 days now!  And to think that we first knew about the pregnancy around 245 days.  WOW!  Now of course Sophie is the one calling the shots here.  So, I could be 2 weeks late making it 112 days.  OR she could come 3 weeks early and make it 77 days!  Let the guessing games begin!  I know I'll really start to get excited when we hit 60 days.  It's already strange to have work deadlines, grocery expiration dates and events planned after May 23.

The heartburn continues...
Well at least I can say only 98 days left of heartburn.  yikes!  It's been bad enough to make me sleep sitting up the past few nights.  And while that helps with the burning, it doesn't help my back.  Needless to say, I look funny walking around with a limp and grabbing at my burning chest in the evenings.  Billy's been great at getting me ice cream when I need it for pain relief (without a second thought as to what size my tush is going to get).

Following the directions
We're starting to get gifts mailed to the house now and each one has to be put together in some way.  We assembled the pack and play from Nana and Papa the other night.  Following these baby directions isn't easy!  The crib from Mom and Mark finally came in the mail yesterday.  It is so beautiful and I cannot wait to put it together this weekend.  Those directions look even worse, but I know we can handle that.  We've built enough IKEA furniture with directions in German to know that a Babies R Us crib should be a piece of cake!
