Mailee's 1st Christmas
Mommy has the flu
Well, Christmas was not what we were hoping for. I was wallopped with the flu bug on Christmas Eve at 10:00pm and was up sick all night. I spent Christmas day in bed and Daddy had Mailee duty. She got to visit with Nannette and Nana and then slept for a 3 hour nap with Mommy in Mommy and Daddy's bed. For a 3-month-old, that is a holiday! We are now planning to spend a make-up Christmas on January 6th with Mommy's family!

January 6th
Well.. No Christmas!
We'll have to make next Christmas extra-special. This morning we got a call that now Grandma was sick, so Christmas dinner was off! I took the opportunity to put on Mailee's Christmas dress and have a photo shoot anyway (see photo album). Also, Mailee surprised me when she rolled over for the first time too! It was a good day, despite no Christmas!

Her first birthday
People tell me that today is my birthday too. This concept really didn't make sense to me until tonight. My life was metamorphasized on this day last year. Mailee has made me a different, more mature and concerned person. I am so in love with her!

I also realized today, as we were driving to get her pictures taken, that I have become very protective of "her day." The radio was flooded with "Proud to be An American" and "God Bless America" and all I want to say is, "Nothing bad better happen again on this date! Doesn't everyone know that this beautiful little girl was born on September 11th and now that day is forever changed!?!"

So, with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat, I look in the backseat at my little angel, sitting facing forward for the first time, and see hope for my future and hers in her adorable impish smile. She has no idea what 9/11 means to the world she was brought into a year ago. She happily dances to the tunes streaming from her new "MP3 toy" and my heart dances with pride that I am her mommy!

So everyone, I wish you a Very Happy Patriot Day and a Happy Happy Birthday, Smiley Mailee!

Teeth again????
For those of you who have been following along, you know that Mailee got 8 teeth in one week when she was just 5 months old.
Well, now our little princess' growing power is amazing me again! She has 3 of 4 eyeteeth poking through already (these typically show up around 16 months)! AND she is now working on the first set of molars (usually 14 month teeth). She has been sleeping like a newborn for the last 4 nights now. By that, I mean she is up crying (more like screeching) every 1 1/2 -2 hours. She seems to be able to sleep alright if she is next to me, so I have had a mini bunkmate from about 2am on for the last few nights. (Sorry Johnny, you get the couch!) While I love that she loves being close, I sure will be happy when all these chompers are in place and we all can get some peaceful night sleep again.
Ironically, on the night of her birthday, I was sad that my baby girl was growing so fast. This has been a reminder that some aspects of growing up (i.e. sleeping longer at night) are very welcomed!!!

1 year old check-up
OK, so I am finding this hard to believe. Mailee now weighs 21 pounds and is 31 inches tall. According to the charts, that means she is 70th percentile for weight and 95th for height! I had no idea she was tall. She seems like such a peanut next to other babies we know... Hmmm, I guess we just hang with tall people!
The doctor says she is developmentally right on track and that she is very healthy! Yea!
She also said, "You know she is beautiful, Right?" I gotta say, I love that! Thank you, Dr. Spiegal.

Mailee's First Injury
Cruising  is easy, it is walking that is going to be tough! Mailee is getting braver and braver. Lately she likes to lunge toward the next piece of furniture (or person) and run to catch the legs up as she grabs on. Today, however, her arms didn't quite reach the table and she met the edge face first. Poor baby! I gave her pacifier to her to help soothe her, and because her lip was swollen, the paci was crooked in her little mouth. It is terrible when little ones get hurt, but it felt good that I could comfort her and make her feel better! I love being a mommy, even when my cub is injured!

Poor Baby Girl!

Bad Mommy Disclaimer
Not the real picture!
OK, I was just looking over the website and I realize that it looks like I give Brittany Spears a run for her money in the "Bad Mommy" category.
No the picture of Mailee's injury is not of the initial crash. I did comfort my punkin, apply cold compresses, and calm her down right away. The tantrum in the picture came after she was comforted and calmed in my arms. A friend told me to take a picture of her first crash to have for posterity and to help me when I remember the injury to be way worse than actual. That was when I tried to set her down to take her picture. She then started crying. At that point, I just thought she was too cute, even when upset! For that, I am guilty.

Daddy Day Care
Mommy gets to sleep in!
Johnny was so sweet on Sunday morning he told me to sleep in and he took Mailee for an extra hour and a half. I have been getting over a head cold and he knows that mornings are the toughest for me.
At 8:00, he brought Mailee to my bed and told me that it was "my turn." Here's our conversation...
Me- Did you change her diaper?
 Johnny - Nope!
Me- Did you give her some milk?
Johnny - No, I gave her water, though.
Me- What did you do? (trying not to show in my tone how "I would have done it differently." I have learned my lesson about that)
Johnny- We had Cheerios and water and made a mess. I got a lot of pictures!
 Me - Oh, OK.
 Johnny- Hey, I SUSTAINED LIFE!

Now let me tell you. I loved to sleep and it was so worth it to vacuum the Cheerios later! He "sustained life" and they both had fun.

Daddy let me do it!
