36 Weeks
Getting Closer
We had a great doctors visit this week. The baby is estimated to weigh around 6 lbs. and has dropped much lower on Tina. Tina is 1 cm. dialated which means the process has started. At this point it could be several weeks or a few days.

Baby's Room
We've almost finished with his room. We've re-painted the entire room and we've been blessed with a lot of great stuff for our new son. We can't wait to put him in his new carrier and to push him in his new stroller. This is going to be fun!

29 weeks and going strong!

Today, August 30, we had our latest doctor's visit.  The baby weighs somewhere around 2 1/2 pounds and is around 16 inches in length.

The doctor listened to the heart and it sounded great.  We continue to prepare for the baby by preparing the babies new room.  Hailey is very excited about his coming and loves to throw her favorite stuffed animals into his crib.  She informed us the other day that when the baby cries she'll get the step ladder and use it to climb up to the baby's bed.  Then she'll take the baby and feed it and burp it.  She's going to be a great (and probably bossy) big sister.

It's a boy!

We're having a boy!
Week 20

That's right, we're having a boy.  We had our 20 week doctor's visit yesterday and all is great.  They did a very detailed ultrasound and showed us various parts of his heart, kidneys, stomach, umbilical cord and we ended up with a great profile of our son.

By the way, we should listen to those of you who voted online for the baby's sex.  57% of you voted it would be a boy.  Great job!  Thanks for voting!

What were we expecting?
Originally Tina felt like it was aboy but after two months of hearing everyone say "It's going to be a girl" she had changed her mind to girl.  Jack felt like it was a girl so he was kind of shocked to hear the news.  Once the shock wore off (after about 5 seconds) our hearts were thrilled to learn we were having a son.  Hailey is thrilled to find out she's going to have a little brother.

How did we find out?
We asked the ultrasound technician to write down the sex of the baby on a sheet of paper and seal it in an envelope.  Then on Thursday evening (7/8/04) we had both families over and we opened the envelope in front of everyone.  Our families were just as shocked as we were, of the whole group only two had guessed it was a boy.

What's next?
Now that we have a boy on the way it's time to start stocking up.  If we were having a girl we would have been in good shape with clothes and other items.  With the coming of a son it's time to start almost from scratch with clothing, bedding and toys.  (Though it would be cheaper to dress our son in a dress and let him play with dolls, thats not an option!)

Week 16

Only four more weeks until we find out if we're having a boy or a girl.  We're getting ready to move the office out of the house so we can prepare the new baby's room.  Exciting times!

Week 12

Today we are 12 weeks pregnant.  It's hard to believe how time is progressing.  How is the baby developing?  Finger and toes have seperated and nails are growing.  Scattered rudiments of hair have begun to appear on the body. The nervous and digestive systems continue to develop.  At this point it's not possible to distinguish between male and female but we should be able at 20 weeks.  We cannot wait!

Telling our Parents

How did we tell the family?

We had Tina's parents over one weekend and Jack's on the following weekend.  Jack created a video with various clips from Hailey's recent birthday party.  At the end of the movie Jack created a preview of "The must see movie of 2004...starring...the premiere of." Then the noise of a new born baby and the words "The new baby Fussell" appeared followed by the ultrasound picture with the announcement of "We're Pregnant."  They were definitely shocked by the announcement and lots of tears and hugs followed.

First Doctor's Visit
On April 7, 2004 we had our first doctor's visit.  They performed an ultrasound and we were able to hear the baby's heart beat for the first time.  It was amazing to realize that our new baby was in there and doing great.  They broke the rules for us and allowed Hailey to come in and hear also.  Now she asks people if they want to see the picture of the baby.
