On September 4th, the twins tried to make an early entrance. Thanks to the benefits of magnesium sulfate, immediate bed rest and 10 days in the hospital, we were able to hold off their delivery.
One month later, on October 13th – we had a routine ultrasound. The measurements showed our baby boy was almost 2 pounds heavier than our girl. Dr. Montgomery recommended we deliver that afternoon since our daughter was no longer growing appropriately. Then, after taking mom’s blood pressure, delivery was not an option, but a necessity. We were scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. c-section.
Cole was born at 5:13 p.m.; Cass at 5:14 p.m. Cole weighed 6 lbs., 4 ozs., and he measured 18 inches long. Cass was 3 lbs., 15 ozs., and she was 16.5 inches.
Cole had some respiratory issues, and Cass’ blood sugar was too low. She also developed jaundice. Thank goodness there were no major problems. Twenty-two hours after they were born, mom was finally able to meet her new babies. What a wonderful day!!
Cole and Cass progressed from the NICU to the Stepdown Unit. Cole was discharged October 20th, and Cass was able to go home on October 25th.
Unfortunately, Cassidy was re-admitted to the hospital on November 15th in respiratory distress (her little nasal passages couldn’t handle the cold she had). She was discharged two days later in much better health.
As of December 2004, everyone is doing quite well. Cole and Cass have both begun to smile, and we’ve even heard a few giggles. They are growing so well. . .in fact, at their 2-month check-up, Cole weighed in at 10 pounds, 13 ounces. Cass was 6 pounds, 5 ounces.
