A star is born!
It was a long labor, but every moment was worth it. Courtney started with contractions early on Thursday morning (7/19) at 1:00 am. We waited around for Target to open, walked around the store for a while to help get the process moving along. We also went to IHOP to get some nourishment and pass the time. Back at home, we went a long walk and then played cribbage. We watched Aladdin and Rent as Courtney sang along an rocked with the music to help get through some tough contractions.

Finally, after laboring at home for 21 hours, it was time to head to the hospital. This part wasn't so bad quite yet. We checked in to the hospital at 10:00 pm and Courtney was dialated 4 cm. With the help of sister-in-law (and midwife) Amy we made it through the next 4 and a half hours of tough labor, completely drug free.

Courtney's water broke at 2:00, she started pushing close to 2:15, and Jake Ryan was born at 2:30 am.

Week 38
Wow, we're almost there! Only 11 days until our due date, but who knows when this little guy will decide to make an appearance. We are both so excited and going crazy with anticipation! Although, I've got a feeling that he is going to hold out until August 1st or so. But, if he comes earlier, we are all set. We've got both car seat bases installed, but still need to have them checked out by a professional to make sure that they are in there snug and safe.

My hands and feet have been pretty swollen for the past week or so, so that's been a little difficult to deal with. I just try to keep my feet elevated when ever possible and stay in the air conditioning. We also were told that floating weightless in a pool would be a nice relief. So, we spent a couple of hours this morning at the pool and that was just wonderful. Some how, it balances out the water retention in my limbs. Oh, but don't worry, this swelling is completely normal and not accompanied by any other syptoms that my lead to Toxemia. So, the doctor's aren't worried at all.

Week 35

Only 5 more weeks to go! (35 days!!!) We are starting to have weekly doctors appointments now. That's a sign that we're getting close. Both mom and baby are feeling good, and are in good health. Courtney's feet are starting to get pretty swollen, especially by the end of the day. Colorado continues to break record high's for June, so that has been interesting. Our air conditioning went out for a few days recently, but our good friend Pablo came over to ensure the momma wouldn't over heat. So, that's all good now.

We recently spent Father's day at the Rockies game. They gave all the men free Rockies hats in celebration of their special day. It was extreemly hot that day and we were sitting right in the sun. So, we loaded up with cold drinks and found some seats in the shade. While the Rockies lost the game, we still had a great day. It's the start of a fantastic Father's Day tradition.

Week 33

We had yet another doctor's appointment yesterday. It went well and the doctor gave Courtney & the baby an A+. We are both in great health. We've begun feeling Braxton Hicks contractions which are pretty typical at this stage. The doctor said that his head is down, so we were relieved to hear that.

That's about all we have to report this time. Our next appointment is in 2 weeks, so we'll update the site again after that one!
