We are pregnant!!!
Sunday, September 2nd, 2007
After getting home from a barbeque at Grandma Maggie's I decided to take a pregnancy test and after seeing hundreds of negatives it came up 'pregnant'!!! I was in such shock that I ran outside where Dave was weedwacking, waving the test in the air, and screaming we are pregnant. Not the most thought out way to tell him, but I was just so darn excited. I felt as if all the stars had finally aligned and we have been given such an amazing gift. I don't think I will ever forget this day.

1st beta
Tuesday, September 4th, 2007
I am 11 days past ovulation today and I got my first blood (beta) test done today to check my levels and make sure that they are doubling appropriately. Your HCG number is supposed to double every 48 hours in a viable pregnancy. The results from today are HCG-36 and progesterone-47. The Dr said these numbers are great so it is official!! I will be going back in two days for another draw.

2nd beta
Thursday, September 6th, 2007
I had my 2nd beta today and the results were HCG-132 and progesterone-39. FANTASTIC NEWS!!! My numbers doubled in 24 hours (as opposed to 48 hours) which is great!

Last beta
Saturday, September 8th, 2007
Well, last beta was done today . . . thank goodness because my arm looks horrible!! The results were HCG-433 and progesterone-50. Everything is looking great and I could not be happier.

1st ultrasound

5 weeks, 3days: I was so nervous for this appointment, but all went perfect. We were able to see the sac and the little smudge, which was the beginning of the yolk sac.

2nd ultrasound
Monday, September 24th, 2007
6 weeks, 3days: Today we got to see the heartbeat!!!!!!!!! It was a little flicker that basically took up the whole baby. We couldn't be happier. I don't think I stopped smiling the whole day.

Oh my gosh, it's a baby!
Monday, October 15th 2007
9 weeks, 3 days: We have now been released from Johns Hopkins and we had our first pre-natal appointment today. We talked to a very informative nurse for 45 minutes and she went over all the do's and don'ts of pregnancy as well as our family history. We then saw the Dr who did an exam and tried to locate the heartbeat with the doppler. He was not able to do so (which of course freaked me out) and sent me for an ultrasound right away. The tech was amazing and located the baby immediately. The heartrate was 171 and the baby was SO much bigger than last time!! She flipped the ultrasound over to 4d and we were able to get some very cool shots. I just could not believe all the kicking, streching, and flipping around this little one was doing already. So amazing!!!

Random appt.
Monday, October 29th, 2007
11 weeks, 3 days: Well, I thought I had a UTI so I went to see the Dr today. I ended up getting an exam too while I was there by a student midwife and she tried to use that darn doppler again. Just like last appt where they were unable to find the heartbeat, they could not find it this time either. She told me they should be able to find it by now and she got her boss to come in and try to look for it. The other lady checked for another 5 minutes or so and could not find it either. So, again they sent me for an u/s . . . all was well . . . little one was rolling around and streching its legs and had a nice heartrate of 169. This little baby likes to hide. The u/s tech said that he/she was way back there so no wonder they could not find the heartbeat. The bigger he/she gets, the harder it will be for him/her to hide like that and scare the crap out of Mommy. Sigh of relief! Almost out of my 1st trimester!!!

NT Scan
Tuesday, November 6th, 2007
Just got back from the NT scan and everything went well!!
We will get results back later this week or early next. Baby looks wonderful . . . little one was sucking on its fingers most of the time and looked like it was hicupping. He/she was not being cooperative so they had a hard time getting the neck measurements. The Dr had me lay on one side, then on the other, then back on my back so that he could finally get it. He was shaking my belly to try to get him/her to move the right way. It was pretty funny.
We got to hear the heartbeat for the first time (after seeing it so many times). It has gone from 171 to 169 to 161. I think it is leveling off a bit now. The baby is measuring a little ahead at 13 weeks, 2 days which is great. So happy to see the little one and as far as I am concerned I am in my 2nd trimester now--who-hoo!!
Only bad part was my Dr did not have the best bedside manner and barely talked to the whole time. I was warned of this and was really hoping I would have the other Dr there, but they do not let you request Dr's. Also, HE took my blood and had to stab me twice. I thought that was weird . . . don't nurses take blood normally? They certainly are better at it.
Lastly, I got NO pics and they would not let me video tape it. BOO! They said I could have brought in a VCR tape, but what good is that if they do not tell you ahead of time?? Oh well, baby is good and that is all that matters. I will demand pics at my next one which is my 18 week on Dec 18th.
UPDATE: Just got a call from the Dr . . . he failed to mention while I was there that I have placenta previa. This is where the placenta is lying over the cervix. He provided some limitations to follow to prevent issues, but he said 90% of the time it corrects itself. They will check again at the next appt.

2nd pre-natal appt
Thursday, November 8th, 2007
We were able to hear the heartbeat on the doppler today!! Finally! It took the nurse a minute, but she found it which means no more being rushed off for an u/s. YAY.
She also had the results from the 1st trimester screening sent over to her so she could confirm the placenta previa diagnosis. She unfortunately did confirm it and said that it was a "complete" one instead of "partial" which makes it less likely to move. There still is a chance it could move and I am not going to worry about it until my 18 week scan. Only bummer is I can't really do much . . . no prenatal yoga, no strenous activities, lifting, etc. So instead of finding out the gender at our 18 week u/s, we get to find out if placenta has moved-haha!

Results from NT scan
Monday, November 12th, 2007
Heard the results back from the Nucheal Translucency Scan today . . . the statistics for Downs Syndrome at my age is normally 1 in 854. Now, after getting the results of my test last week my odds have been lowered to 1 in 10,712. The stats for Trisomy 13 and 18 at the age of 27 are 1 in 1,597. Now, after testing the stats are 1 in 21,097. So, the results were great and very reassuring that there are no chromosomal abnormalities.

Movement!
Monday, December 3rd, 2007
I have been feeling what I thought was movement on and off for a while now, but there was no doubt about it this past Saturday night. We were at a neighborhood Christmas party and the whole time I was talking to people, he/she was moving around. I felt a lot of pokes on my left side and it almost tickled from the outside. It was really neat, but I wish it would have happened while I was at home and could concentrate on it and enjoy it! It was very distracting during my conversations with people :) It lasted for over an hour, but I have not felt much since. The baby must have just been in a good position to give me some pokes then. Looking forward to feeling more movement and Dave being able to feel it too!

Pre-natal appt.
Thursday, December 6, 2007
Today we had our monthly pre-natal appointment. It went great! They measured the baby's heartrate at 155bpm. You could hear the baby kicking as she was measuring the heartrate. I had just had a Decaff Peppermint Mocha Latte from Starbucks, so I think he/she liked it :) They also measured my uterus which is now right at my belly button, which explains why I feel like I am being kicked in the belly button sometimes. Overall, it was a good appointment and just made me more excited for my ultrasound appointment on the 18th!! I can not wait to see this little one again.

Level II ultrasound
Tuesday, December 18th, 2007
Today at 18 weeks, 4 days we had our anatomy scan. My mom was in from North Carolina and was able to go with us. We did refrain from finding out the sex of the baby which was not hard to do (suprisingly). The heartrate was 163 and the baby weighed 9 ounces. At this point everything is formed and the baby is just growing. You can tell in the pictures that baby does not have any fat on it yet . . . it will start getting some fat on its bones in the next month or so.
We had a really great Dr . . . not the one who did our 12 week ultrasound that we did not care for. This one had a great bedside manner and made the u/s really enjoyable. He showed us all of the important parts and confirmed that there is no cleft lip, spina bifida, or any other congenital abnormalities that they could see. GREAT NEWS! He also was able to get some nice pics of the face of the baby for us.
He also told us that my complete placenta previa has now changed to partial placenta previa. This means that the placenta used to be fully covering the cervix, but is now only partially covering it. He said that he believes that it will move completely away but has no guarantees. We go back in the beginning of February for another ultrasound to check on it. I am still on modified rest to prevent issues from arising because of it.

Pre-natal appt.
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008
20 weeks, 6 days: Appointment today went great! Baby's heartrate was 150bpm and nice and clear. I got all my questions answered by our midwife Heather. I was having pain the last few days and the midwife told me it sounds like ligament pain from the streching, so there was nothing to worry about. Weight gain was right on track (though always shocking to see) and she approved us to travel at the end of month for our "Babymoon" to Florida. She did say that I am measuring ahead again (my uterus is larger than average based on how many weeks I am), but she said that it is ok. Makes sense though because the baby has been measuring a little ahead at all my ultrasounds too. The uterus is supposed to be up to your belly button at this point in the pregnancy but mine is about 2 inches above that.
Overall, everything is great! I am feeling well besides my lack of sleep and feel very lucky for that. I can not believe that I only have one more monthly appt before it switches to bi-weekly! This pregnancy seems to just be flying by at times.

Update
Saturday, January 19th, 2008
23 weeks, 1 day: Everything has been going really great! I am feeling the baby move all the time now and can even see this little one kick from the outside. I get a lot of entertainment out of watching my belly move around at night when I lay down to go to sleep. Dave is finally able to see and feel the baby kicking more often now. Such an amazing thing to have the daily reassurance that everything is going all right in there. I am looking forward to our appointment next Saturday just to check on him/her and make sure everything is perfect. Dave and I are also anxiously awaiting our "Babymoon" that we leave for on the 31st. It will be really nice to get away one last time and relax a bit before the baby comes. I feel like everything is happening so fast and before I know it the baby will be here, so I want to enjoy every moment leading up to it so I can say I really treasured my pregnancy and not just rushed my way through it. I can truly say that even with all the unpleasant stuff that comes with pregnancy, I still am really enjoying it.

Follow up u/s on placenta previa
Tuesday, February 5th, 2008
25 weeks, 4 days: Our appointment went great! Baby had a heartrate of 157 and is a whopping 2lbs, 3oz. That puts Baby Neumann in the 91st percentile for weight. He/she is still measuring about 1 week ahead. My placenta has moved out of the way, which means the placenta previa is GONE!
We got some great pictures of our little baby and it was so cool to see their face developed. Definitely looks like Daddy! Dave is feeling boy now and I am still undecided. My mom is convinced it is a girl, so we will see! Getting really excited to meet him/her . . . only 14 more weeks!

26 weeks today!
Friday, February 8th, 2008
So today I am 26 weeks. My pregnancy book said that if our baby was born today that it would have an 85% chance of surviving. While I would never want this to happen, it is reassuring to know that if something were to happen our baby could still be fine. Every week that goes by I sigh a little bit in relief.
I have started going to Physical Therapy twice a week for my back pain. Apparantly all the added weight in the front has taken a toll on my back. My Therapist is great though and is working hard with me to get some stregth in my back to support this belly and boobs! Yesterday, she actually used an (unused) toilet plunger on my back to try to get out a knot that she was not able to work out with her hand . . . that was interesting. It does seems to be helping so far though which is good.
Sleeping . . . what's that? I know this is only going to get worse for me when the baby comes, but I sure am going to be excited not to wake up from pain anymore. I would so much rather wake up for my baby needing their mommy :)
Our Babymoon went great! The weather was amazing and we had a good time just relaxing and reading . . . it was our last vacation as a two-some. Yikes!!! :)

3rd trimester starts today!!
Friday, February 15th, 2007
Oh my gosh . . . I can not believe I am in my 3rd trimester! Time is just flying by now. Our nursery furniture came in and we are picking it up this weekend. I am so excited to see it all come together!! My mom is finished with all the bedding and is just working on the drapes, which I will get at the shower on the 8th. I have just been working on finishing up some art work I am doing and finding some odds and ends (lamp, curtain rod, end tables, etc). Almost there!
I think it is so funny some of the comments people say to pregnant women before thinking. I now know what to say and what not to say :) Some lady asked me today at the fed ex store if I was 'ready to pop' . . . um . . . NO, I have 3 more months left woman!! Then she proceeded to tell me how it is always exciting with the first pregnancy, but by the second pregnancy you do not care anymore . . . what the heck?? My favorite was someone who asked me if I was having twins and when I told her I wasn't she asked if 'I was sure' because she thought I looked too big for how far along I was. Gotta love it. Oh, and I also think it is so funny how convinced everyone is of the gender of the baby . . . I am still clueless, but a lot of people seem pretty sure so I am excited to see. GIRL seems to be the majority vote as of right now.
PT is really helping my back. I also got a new chair for my office, so I think the combination has really helped to cut back on the pain. I am still ready to lay down and take some of the pressure off at the end of the day, but I know that is normal.

28 week appt & trip to Labor and Delivery
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008
Went for my 28 week appt on Monday. I had my gestational diabetes test done, which I should hear the results back on later this week. She measured my belly which she says is growing well and we listened to the baby's heartbeat (which was 154-156 this time). The baby is still breach at this point, but they said they do not worry about their position until 36 weeks, so that made me feel better. At my appointment I discussed with her that I had been having some cramping on and off for a day or so. Since I was not having any at that time she did not do an internal and just said to call if they get worse or more frequent.
So, we went home and ate some dinner and I was still having cramping and some braxton hicks contractions. I decided to call the midwife just to get het thoughts and they had me lay down on my left side for an hour, drink lots of water and time then. I did that and had about 6 cramps in 45 minutes lasting anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute. I called her back and they decided to just have me come in to be checked out. So, at 8:30 at night Dave and I headed to the hospital. I was not nervous because I knew there was nothing wrong because they were so mild, but it was one of those things where I felt it was better to be safe than sorry . . . especially since this is my 1st and I do not understand what is ok and not ok yet.
We arrived around 9pm and they hooked me up to the monitors. We listened to the baby's heart for a while and I had some mild cramping and some braxton hicks while on the monitor but nothing alarming. They did an internal exam and I was not dialated either which was good. They basically said that I was having braxton hicks which can sometimes cause a crampy feeling and that I was not to worry unless they got worse. We got home around midnight and we were exhausted, but relieved that all was well. So, there it is . . . our first trip to labor and delivery. I hope not to be back until it is time to go for real in about 11 weeks!
I have not had the same amount of cramping since Monday night so I am thinking that the baby was having a growth spurt or something that day. Who knows, but baby is healthy and happy so we are happy.

Pre-natal appt and 3d u/s
Tuesday, March 11th, 2008
We had our 3d/4d ultrasound this past Saturday at "Womb with a View". The pictures came out fantastic and we got to see our little chunky monkey moving all over the place, yawning, smirking, sucking on his/her fingers, sticking its tongue out. It was amazing. It made me so excited to meet this little one in person and squeeze its little cheeks! :)
Yesterday at 30 weeks, 3 days we had our bi-weekly pre-natal. She confirmed that the baby is head down now (flipped before the 3d u/s on Sat). I am also measuring 33-34 weeks right now which is ahead by almost a month (yikes!!). She said that she was not too concerned about it yet because she thinks that I just have a lot of amniotic fluid. They are going to reevaluate at my next appt to make sure that I do not continue to get too large for my gestational age. The baby's heartrate was all over the place at this appt, which she said variability was good. Weight gain has trailed off a little thank goodness, so all is looking great!
I can not believe that I only have 9 weeks left (or less!). Kind of freaks me out that in such a short time my little baby will be in our arms. Seems like this has flown by and before I know it he/she will be here. I am so excited and scared all at the same time!
