Dear Jordan,
Here's a journal of how you came into our lives.

Well, your Dad and I got married on November 19, 2004. We've talked about kids, but weren't sure when to start having them. We knew we wanted to wait until we were at least married for one year.

As it turned out, we were going on our second year of marriage when one summer in August, August of 2006 to be exact, your Dad and I were camping at Holter Lake in Montana when I decided it was time.

We were in Montana for your Dad's 20 year class reunion. Your Dad graduated from Great Falls High in 1986. Holter Lake is beautiful by the way. I even almost caught a big brown trout with my bare hands on that trip. I'll tell you about it some day.

Anyway, by Thanksgiving in 2006, I just knew I was pregnant. I hadn't tested yet to know for sure, but I knew it in my heart that you were there. Matter of fact, I did end up taking a test Thanksgiving night to see. It was negative because I was in the very early stages with you, but I still knew in my heart you were there and I was happy.

About two weeks later, at Midnight on December 10th, I took another pregnancy test. As I was brushing my teeth I was watching the two lines appear  which confirmed I was pregnant. I was so thrilled and so incredibly happy, there were no words to describe the happiness I felt.

Comment from Dad:
When your Mom told me she was pregnant, I was extremely happy and couldn't wait to have a new baby!

Then my nine month journey began...

The Nine Month Journey Begins...
Well, my first month not a whole lot went on physically, but emotionally it was so wonderful to share the good news with everyone. Everyone we told was so excited that everyone wanted you here already but we all had to wait patiently for nine months while God specially made you. Your Aunt Denise bought your first outfit and Teddy Bear.

By month two and three, physically I was starting to not feel so great. I had some morning sickness symptoms every day. I actually felt nauseous every day most all day long and ended the third month with horrible headaches every day for a week. But when it was done, it was done. My physical appearance hadn't changed yet.

Months 4 and 5, I felt great. I was not sick at all. I had lots of energy. It was wonderful. I started noticing my belly starting to grow slightly. No one else could tell except your Dad.

By month 6, I had a cute belly. I could still wear most of my regular clothes, including my jeans. Most people, if I hadn't told them I was pregnant, didn't know. This is also the month that I really started to feel you move around a lot.

Matter of fact, I think it was towards the end of the fifth month that you were definitely moving. I remember one particular Sunday in Sunday School at church. Milwaukie First Baptist. You kicked me so hard while we were in the middle of praying it made me jump. It was the most wonderful feeling in the world.

From that point on, you remained pretty active until the end. Also when I was six months, I remember one particular night I was laying down on the chair in our living room. Your Dad was on the floor next to me. We were watching T.V. You were being pretty active so I decided that I wanted to see if I could see you move. So I lifted up my shirt to watch, expecting to maybe see a little bump or two in my tummy. Instead what I got was a huge bump and then a huge wave rolled across my whole stomach. That was you moving around in there! Your Dad and I started laughing. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen, and felt.

It's a Boy!
On Good Friday, April 6, 2007, we had your ultrasound appointment to find out if you were going to be a girl or a boy. Obviously you were a boy. Justin and Rachel came to that appointment. We all got to see you for the first time. I was so happy, I almost cried. We got to watch you move around and touch your face. We even watched your mouth open and close. It was so cool! I couldn't wait to tell everyone that we were having a son.

Comment from Dad:
Seeing you move around made it so much more real that you were coming. It was an emotional experience.

Your Dad almost cried. Happy tears of course. Seeing you for the first time was amazing!

Close Encounter With a Bear!
Month 7. Well I definitely had a belly. Not huge, but a belly. Let's see...your Dad, Justin, Rachel and I went camping up at Mt. St. Helens. We saw recent bear tracks in the snow about ten feet away from our camp site. Your brother Justin swore those tracks didn't exist when we first got up to our campsite. When Rachel and I were setting up camp while your Dad and Justin were gone getting our stuff, I did hear something close by but I couldn't see anything because it was dark.

It was a little unnerving to think a bear most likely passed right by our campsite while Rachel and I were setting up camp alone in the dark. All was well though, no one got hurt. Matter of fact, our campsite had quite a few bear tracks around from a mama and a baby bear. The tracks were fascinating to see. We also heard a coyote in the wee hours of the morning right outside our tent.

We also hiked Ptarmigan Trail. It was a great hike, however it rained pretty much the entire trip so we ended up going home early. It was still fun though. Your Dad and I like to do a lot of camping.

Months 7 & 8
You however remained pretty active, which I really enjoyed. I think that was my favorite part of being pregnant. Although I swear when I would visit your cousin Ian, you would go into hiding. I think he was too loud for you. I swear you wouldn't move for a couple days after I would visit Ian and Jasmine. Ian is two and Jasmine is one.

Jasmine also shares our middle name. I asked your Aunt Nikki to give her my middle name which is also your Grandma Peggy's middle name. Your Grandma Peggy is my mom.

Month 8. My tummy has gradually been growing. You are active as ever. I loved laying my hands on my stomach and feeling you move. I also loved watching you move around. I still felt really good.

Oh gees...I almost forgot. In June when I was about 7 months pregnant you went to your first Belisle family reunion, which explains your Belisle onsie. You will attend many more in your life. Your first one outside the womb you will be two years old.

My Ninth Month
Well, out of nowhere my tummy got really huge. You continued to kick away. Your Dad and I wondered every day when you would decide to come. We were taking care of last minute preparations.

Your Mom is crazy, you'll learn that soon enough. I decided about a week before you were due that I wanted to move. So I found a house and we started to move.

Your due date, by the way, was August 14th. Well the Thursday before Tuesday the 14th I started to feel some pressures. Nothing big, just pressure. This continued through Friday. Come Saturday, the pressure was turning into pain. By the way, we started moving stuff into the new house.

Labor and Delivery
Saturday the 11th, which is my birthday, I was in some pretty good pain so I didn't help a whole lot with moving. By Saturday night we, as in your Dad and I, Kimberly, a good friend of ours, Leila and your Grandpa Choo went to the hospital.

The hospital evaluated me, had me walk around, gave me some pain medicine and sleeping pills...which neither worked. I took a jacuzzi bath which helped some. I pretty much was awake all night in pain waiting for you. By morning they sent me home because they said I was only dialated to two cm and I could be like that for a couple of days.

So we left and went home. Well, needless to say we missed church on Sunday. The hospital sent me home with two more sleeping pills, which I took. They didn't work. Well, the pills wanted to work but the contractions were getting too intense for me to sleep.

I spent all day in bed focusing on the contractions, which I didn't know were contractions. By nightfall, I couldn't even really stay in bed. I would get up and pace. I would lay down. Everytime I had a contraction I would count while breathing deep and slow. These contractions would come every two to five minutes, and had been that way since they started.

I tried taking Tylenol with the nurses permission to do so. It didn't help. I even took a three hour bath. It didn't help. I did this until about 5:30 Monday morning. I finally decided to wake your Dad up to take me to the hospital again.

You're probably wondering why I didn't have him take me sooner. Well, because I did not want to get sent home again...not without you anyway.

So I woke your Dad up and do you know what he did? He was very loving and willing to jump up to take me, but he had to take a shower first. Now initially I was thinking because of the pain, 'What the heck are you doing, you are taking forever. I want to leave right now.' But in reality we were out the door in about 5 minutes. It just felt like twenty.

So we get to the hospital. I refused to ride in a wheelchair. I was determined to walk to maternity, and I did. But not without stopping more than a few times all the way there. I made it. I got to my room finally and dressed in my hospital gown.

The nurse needed to check me out to see what my progress was as far as you coming. You know what she told me? I was 9 and a half cm dialated and then my water broke...which meant you were coming very soon.

By this time I was exhausted and when my water broke I thought OH MY GOSH! THIS IS IT, JORDAN IS COMING! I was very excited but man I wasn't sure what else to think or expect. I was so tired and hurt pretty bad at this point. I just wanted medicine to make me feel better.

At first the nurse didn't think I would be able to have an epideral, but thankfully the doctor said I could. So a really nice nurse came in and gave it to me. It made a huge difference. It gave me energy and enough of a break from the pain that when it wore off about fifteen minutes later and it came time to push, I was fine and could do it.

I think from the time that we came in to the time that you came out was about two hours. The delivery itself was not that bad. It hurt some, but really not that bad. Matter of fact, in the middle of all that pushing I was thinking I was really hungry and was wondering if they would let me have some jello. At this point I hadn't eaten in a couple days.

I didn't ask for jello, I just focused on getting you out because I couldn't wait to see you. Then finally at 8:13 AM on 8/13/07 you were born weighing 7 lbs. 8 oz, and a head full of hair and 21 inches long.

Loretta, the nurse who assisted with your delivery and who was awesome, handed you to me within moments. Dr. Smucker, who delivered you had your Dad cut your umbilical cord. Before you were born I wanted to help cut it, but you know something, when they handed you to me at the very moment nothing else in the world mattered to me except you.

I saw your Dad cut the cord. I was so happy for him and didn't care about participating. I had you in my arms.

The first thing I saw when you came out was your back side and initially I thought you looked like a ten pound baby. But when they cleaned you up and had you face me and you looked so tiny. The first thing I noticed is that you have your father's cute nose.

I was so incredibly happy that you were finally here. I felt so incredibly blessed and was and is so grateful to God for you. I can't even begin to describe the wonderful emotions I felt seeing you and holding you for the first time. You are the best thing that has happened to me, next to me marrying your Dad.

Honey, I love you so much. Having been blessed with you, I can't even describe how awesome that is. I am overwhelmed with joy and that's a good thing. I thank God for you every day, my precious son.

Sometime later I learned that your Grandpa Choo, aka Grandpa Al, and your sister Leila stood outside the door listening and waiting for you to enter this world. They heard your first cry, which actually wasn't very loud and didn't last long at all. Actually you didn't even cry right away.

When I watched your dad cut the cord, he was so incredibly happy. I could see it written all over his face. I knew how blessed your Dad felt. Sometime soon after that, you sister Leila and Grandpa Choo came in to see you. They couldn't wait to hold you. I'm not even sure which one got to hold you first. I think Leila did because she was helping the nurse clean you up, weigh you, things like that.

Meanwhile, I was starved and my breakfast had just arrived. So while you were being passed around, I was scarfing down food.

Emma Jolee Luff born 8/13 at 8:13...
Here's an interesting story I would like to share. Your Dad has this good friend. His name is Ralph. Well, one day along with everyone else we shared the news with Ralph that we were trying to have a baby.

Well it took us a little while to conceive you, so in the meantime, your Dad's friend Ralph would give your Dad a hard time like tease him for forgetting how and needing some coaching. Anyway, this went on for a little while.

Finally, after a couple months we were pregnant. Well, about a month later your Dad got a phone call from Ralph. Guess what? Ralph and his wife Becky were also pregnant. The funny thing was they weren't expecting it, but they were extremely happy regardless.

Well, we found out that Becky was due around the same time I was. They had a C-Section scheduled for the week before your due date. Well, something got messed up and they had to reschedule for the 13th. After you were born, your Dad decided to text Ralph saying "Jordan Lee Adams born 8/13 at 8:13." Your Dad wanted to beat him to it. The interesting part of this is that Ralph immediately returned the text saying, "Emma Jolee Luff born 8/13 at 8:13." She was born in another hospital about 5 miles away at the exact same time! You guys were also born one ounce apart. She was 7 lbs. 9 oz., you were 7 lbs. 8 oz.

Crazy huh?

To be continued...
